On their sophomore release, Fly Below the Radar, the members of English quartet Minibar take a trip through Americana with stellar results.
Sweeping melodies collide with spellbinding bits of translucent psychedelic folk-rock. The result is an evocative and smooth journey into a slightly stateside sound.
Simon Petty's lush vocals meander in and out of trippy guitar jams amid soothing organs and fevered drumming. "It Is What It Is" and "Unstoppable" inhale dreamy melodies and exhale floating whips of steel-pedal guitar romp.
In "New Mexico," Petty wraps his fragile voice around a salsa-inspired slow jam while drummer Malcom Cross caresses each beat with intense delicateness.
The band's dynamic rhythmic section of Cross and bassist Sid Jordan sail across a sea of melting guitars and crooning choruses of shimmering hope. Fly Below The Radar is a revelation though its simplistic sophistication.
Minibar's perfect mesh of hazy melodies and up-tempo jams proves that sometimes the tiniest blips on a radar screen are the ones that pack the most powerful punch.
